New Pokémon GO Update: Level 40 pokémon, legally!

The latest update for Pokémon GO (0.83.1/1.53.2) was released last night. While it was mostly a small update especially given the hype these past few days, the major fix was the ability for trainers to power up their Pokémon to level 40.

While some trainers may remember a recent update that claimed they could power Pokémon to level 40, it actually stopped at level 39.5. Fortunately, Niantic didn’t take long to notice the error, especially since they took over a year to realize that without technical glitches, trainers were only able to power up their Pokémon to level 39.

Furthermore, trainers can now power up Pokémon 2 levels beyond their trainer level! For instance, a level 36 trainer can power up their Pokémon to level 38, and a level 38 trainer can power up their Pokémon to level 40.

Overall, exciting times lie ahead in the world of Pokémon GO, and a longstanding bug has finally been fixed!
