Hello Winnipeg!

This Saturday (December 9th) sees our first locally grown Pokémon Go Holiday Event, and we can’t be prouder. PegCity Gaming and Winnipeg Pokémon GO Facebook groups have taken steps in the past to provide entertainment and education all year-long and it’s time to have some fun!

Time:

Raid Parade is 10am to 1pm!!!

Break is 1 to 2pm (lunch will NOT be provided).

Holiday Events are 2 to 5pm.

What do I need to bring?

  • Please dress appropriately for the weather!
  • Lunch (No food will be provided at the event).
  • Cash for snacks and the 50/50 draw.
  • Premium raid passes (for in-game events throughout the day).

  • STORAGE SPACE IN GAME FOR POKÉMON COLLECTED DECEMBER 9TH. You will be using them ALL for games at the event.

This Year’s Event Schedule:

10am to 1pm:

Raid Parade: With the recent arrival of Ho-Oh, we decided to begin the day with a beloved PegCity Raids tradition. You asked for it, so you got it! Saturday, Dec 9th, from 10am to 1 pm, we’ll be holding both walking and driving raid parades. We’ll begin the parades like we always do, at the park behind the Hotel Fort Garry in downtown. We’ll proceed under the watchful eye of Remington, Alexis, Andrew and Nico wherever Ho-Oh takes us in the downtown core. Additionally, a 50/50 Draw will be collected while we play, with money raised going towards future projects and prizes.

1 to 2pm:

Lunchtime! Everybody will be encouraged to warm up, and charge his or her batteries (both literally and figuratively)! Go warm up, take a break, and meet us at 2pm.

2 to 4pm:

Games and Challenges! At 2pm, we will be meeting at The Forks central covered pavilion. (Yes, outside between Johnson’s Terminal and the main Forks Market building.) Once there, organizers will assess what raids are taking place nearby, announce contest rules and make introductions! It’s the holidays, and the purpose of the meet up is both social and game related.
Below is a short summary of some of the games and contests we’ll be holding around the Forks and at Union Station while we play, keep warm, and have fun!

Pokémon Break Out:
Various Gyms around the Forks have Pokémon trapped within! Teams will be timed in efforts to ‘release’ the stubborn Pokémon within. (The defending team’s goal isn’t to keep the gym.) Guess the theme holiday defenders chose to build their gyms with! Players present will judge the defending gym on theme, difficulty to tear down and overall entertainment!

Kill Streak: Oooh, not very holiday sounding is it? This game is backwards to what you’d ordinarily seek to achieve in Pokémon GO. Players will use their Bluetooth devices such as their Go+ and Go-tcha. Lures will be set around a Pokémon saturated area. Each player holds out their hand until all devices are signaling for Pokémon detected. Players attempt to catch the Pokémon, BUT are eliminated if they do so. Each round is a single catch attempt followed by elimination if they successfully catch the ‘mon. The winner is the player who goes on the longest streak without catching a single ‘mon. Who is the unluckiest trainer present? We will see!

Holiday Leftovers: Chaos ensues as ‘teams’ attempt to take down various raid bosses with meager Pokémon. Players form groups of ‘mons from December 9th and use them to complete raids dropping nearby! You don’t need revives and potions if you’re using Pidgeys, Drowzees, and Rattatas folks, but you’ll probably need to dodge!
The inspiration for this game is that ridiculous screenshot of a Tyranitar Raid being fought with Hoppip, Sneasel, and Squirtle (consult your Pokémon GO loading screen).

Jolliest Pokémon: At the end of the Holiday Event, players will look through their collections and compare Pokémon gathered at the event. The player capturing the HEAVIEST Pokémon (Ho-Oh excluded) wins the title “Jolliest Pokémon Trainer” and a prize!

4 to 5pm:

Closing Ceremonies and the 50-50 Draw! At 4pm, players will gather inside the front doors of Union Station (VIA Rail Station) and prizes will be awarded! Winners for the various contests throughout the day will be announced and the 50/50 draw winning ticket number will be released.

OPTIONAL Gift Exchange! Players who brought small wrapped Pokémon themed gifts ($15 and under) will end the event by exchanging their wrapped gifts with one another. Gifts are placed in a pool and participants take turns picking and opening gifts together in holiday spirit. THIS EVENT IS OPTIONAL!

It will be an action packed event, and we hope to see everyone out this Saturday!
PegCity Team.
