Niantic may have leaked information on gen 3 evolution items and more!

Now that the first 50 gen 3 Pokémon have been out for a week, trainers are slowly starting to get the hang of the new mons they see around their neighbourhood and while travelling around the city.

While everyone continues to make progress in their Hoenn medals, Niantic may have accidentally leaked some information on some future gen 3 Pokémon and possible evolution items.

Pokémon GO’s “Finding, Evolving, and Hatching” section was quietly updated recently with a couple of new statements on mons that haven’t been released. These include the following, quoted from Niantic:

  • In addition to collecting Candy, select Pokémon, like Feebass, need to be walked as your buddy Pokémon before they are ready to be evolved.
  • There are seven different types of Evolution items (Dragon Scale, Deepsea Scale, Deepsea Tooth, King’s Rock, Metal Coat, Sun Stone, and Up-Grade) that can be used to evolve these Pokémon.

Spelling error aside (it’s Feebas, not Feebass), Niantic seems to be implying that trainers will have to walk their Feebas a certain distance in order to evolve it to Milotic. It was previously revealed in the Game Master file that Feebas will need 100 candies to evolve it to Milotic, so it seems there’s a distance factor involved. Further research from /u/chrales on /r/thesilphroad identified that Feebas will have to be walked 20km in addition to the candies to evolve it to Milotic.

Niantic also hinted two new evolution items: Deepsea Scale and Deepsea Tooth. Clamperl, a gen 3 pokémon not released in Pokémon GO yet, is the only mon that uses either of the two items. A Clamperl with Deepsea Scale becomes a Gorebyss, while a Clamperl with Deepsea Tooth becomes a Huntail. It is not known yet whether these two evolution items will be the only ones released for gen 3.

It’s uncertain whether Niantic intended to release this info or whether it was an accidental leak, but regardless trainers can look beyond to future gen 3 releases and new unique evolution items.
