Trainers, these posts in the next week or two will get you used to the excitement and confusion that is gen 3 pokémon and dynamic weather introductions.
In this blog, I would like to draw your attention to three raid bosses: Ho-Oh, Absol, and Mawile. While Ho-Oh has been in the scene since late November (and will continue to be here until December 14th), Absol and Mawile are gen 3 new additions to the raid boss scene.
First of all, some basics:
- Ho-Oh continues to be a tier 5 (legendary) raid and is a Fire and Flying type
- Absol is a tier 4 raid and is a Dark type
- Mawile is a tier 2 raid and is a Steel and Fairy type
Ho-Oh’s CP range is between 2133 and 2222. However, given favourable weather elements (clear or windy), Ho-Oh can reach 2778 CP. Absol’s CP range is between 1232 and 1303, with favourable weather elements (fog) boosting the max catching CP to 1629. Finally, Mawile’s CP range is between and 793 and 848, with favourable weather elements (snow or cloudy) boosting the max catching CP to 1060. All favourable weather elements will boost the catch level for raid bosses from 20 to 25.
Ho-Oh can be 3-manned using level 40 Golems as long as it does not have Solar Beam (in which you need a minimum of 4 high-level trainers). Absol can be 2-manned using level 35+ Machamps. Not surprisingly, Mawile can be easily soloed with fire or poison-type pokémon, or even any type of pokémon if the trainer is above level 30.
Absol and Mawile can both be shiny. The shiny Absol variant has a red horn and tail (as opposed to blue), while a shiny Mawile is a slightly darker variant of yellow with purple jaws instead of black.
There has been reports of Absol or Mawile spotted in the wild, but they are extremely rare, so they are best acquired via raid bosses. Therefore if you want to add either of these two into your pokédex, you’ll have to do the raids and catch those two mons!
