EXCLUSIVE: Catch and spin limit has been raised to 600 daily

Niantic has recently raised the daily catch and spin limit from 500 to 600. This exclusive information has been verified by level 40 trainers across the world, with reports coming in that 600 is, indeed, the new maximum daily limit once you reach the initial weekly limit.

Essentially, trainers are now guaranteed 600 catches and pokéstop spins per day, up from 500 catches and spins. In regards to the 3500 weekly limit, it is still unknown whether that limit has increased, as reports are still mixed for any changes to the weekly cap.

While this change would likely affect only about 1% of trainers, it’s a much needed reprieve from events like the Pokémon GO Travel Event, where the goal is to constantly grind and catch pokémon in order to unlock an achievement. This could also positively affect trainers who frequently camp at major hotspots such as St. Vital Park, where one can easily catch 500 pokémon and spin 500 stops in 3 hours.

Stay tuned for more information on this exciting development!

First Ho-Oh raids popping up in Winnipeg!

Ho-Oh has arrived in Winnipeg!

At 6:03pm, the first Ho-Oh raid popped up at Red River College in the northwest end of the city. Excitement was building for Ho-Oh in Winnipeg and across the world after the Ho-Oh test raid was spotted in Japan this past weekend. However, Ho-Oh will only be out for a limited time, as it will only be available until December 12th!

The numbers you should know for Ho-Oh are 2133 and 2222. 2133 is the lowest possible CP for catching Ho-Oh, while 2222 is the highest CP (100% IV).

Get your Golems powered up and ready! Considering Ho-Oh is a Fire and Flying type, it would have double weakness to rock-type moves, which Golem will excel in. Trainers may also consider Raikou, Zapdos, Vaporeon, or other water and electric types to tackle this rainbow.

Good luck to all trainers trying to catch this legendary rainbow pokémon!

New Pokémon GO Update: Level 40 pokémon, legally!

The latest update for Pokémon GO (0.83.1/1.53.2) was released last night. While it was mostly a small update especially given the hype these past few days, the major fix was the ability for trainers to power up their Pokémon to level 40.

While some trainers may remember a recent update that claimed they could power Pokémon to level 40, it actually stopped at level 39.5. Fortunately, Niantic didn’t take long to notice the error, especially since they took over a year to realize that without technical glitches, trainers were only able to power up their Pokémon to level 39.

Furthermore, trainers can now power up Pokémon 2 levels beyond their trainer level! For instance, a level 36 trainer can power up their Pokémon to level 38, and a level 38 trainer can power up their Pokémon to level 40.

Overall, exciting times lie ahead in the world of Pokémon GO, and a longstanding bug has finally been fixed!

A little reminder on soft ban cap rates

Niantic has finally spoken earlier today after prolonged silence, with an event focusing on catching as many pokémon as possible. The details can be found in the official website, but to sum it up trainers have been challenged to catch 3 billion pokémon in the next 7 days. Various rewards will be unlocked as trainers approach the 3 billion mark, such as double XP, double stardust, 6 hour lures, and the ability to catch the Asia regional pokémon, Farfetch’d, in Winnipeg for 48 hours.

Given the rising excitement, trainers will probably be obliged to catch as many pokémon and spin as many stops with their Go+ or Gotcha. However, trainers should be aware of the new soft ban cap rates that came in effect a few months ago.

The top Pokémon GO player in North America, kiengiv, previously analyzed the cap rate issue in the Pokémon GO level 40 Facebook group. To sum it all up:

  • The weekly limit of pokémon catches and spins for any trainer is 3500 each. However, you are guaranteed both 500 catches and spins every day. For instance, if you approach day 6 at 3400 catches and spins, you can have 500 catches and spins (bringing the weekly number to 3900) before getting soft banned. You can divide the number of catches and spins any way you like during the week; say, 700 catches in day 1, 2, and 3 (totalling 2100), 400 catches in day 4 and 5 (totalling 800), 500 catches in day 6, and 100 catches in day 7.
  • The weekly limit is a rolling limit, meaning the game will consistently track your catches and spins in the previous 7 days (168 hours), not a fixed day like Sunday. For instance, the game will track your catches and spins from 8:59pm November 19th to 8:59pm November 26th, not 12:00am November 19th to 8:59pm November 26th.
  • If you go over your 500 daily catch/spin limit AND the 3500 weekly limit (hence being soft banned), all pokémon will flee from you and spinning stops will receive the “Try again later” message. However, you can still battle gyms.
  • Soft ban lengths can vary depending on when and how fast you catch or spin. For instance, if you start playing at 7:00am and reach the catch and spin limit at 11:00pm, you would be unable to play until 7:00am the next day.
  • Egg hatches do not count toward the limit, since they already account for your pokémon storage once you obtain the egg.

Hopefully this helps trainers in planning their week ahead in catching as many pokémon as possible to unlock rewards!

2nd ever successful 2-man Tyranitar raid in Winnipeg!

Niantic, what the hell?

It was around 1.5 weeks ago when Niantic, in conjunction with Warner Bros. and WB Games San Francisco, announced the development of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite; an AR game that would likely be similar to Pokémon GO that will be released sometime in 2018.

With the announcement, Pokémon GO trainers across the world were skeptical on whether Niantic would continue to focus resources on furthering Pokémon GO. On November 10, Niantic assured Pokémon GO players that they “are 100% committed to creating an ever-evolving and growing game that deepens players’ connection to Pokémon GO”. Furthermore, there would be news “next week about upcoming improvements to certain features“.

A week has passed, and the “improvements to certain features” that we got appeared to have been new avatar items from the Alola Region, to coincide with the release of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. Oh, there was also a loading screen update, where it was reset back to the pre-Halloween version.

Seriously, Niantic?

The community shouldn’t be taken for granted. Niantic has probably realized that their revenues are tanking due to a lack of new content and burnout from raids. In Winnipeg, there has been a noticeable decrease in raid activity in all areas including Central, and the general consensus is that the current legendary raid boss, Suicune, is lacklustre, and trainers are refusing to spend more than their gym coins for raids. Trainers who haven’t caught a Suicune yet are growing frustrated by the lack of raiders (especially outside Central), and I don’t blame them. The weather is getting colder in the city, and the lack of new content has driven trainers away from Pokémon GO and into other games like Draconius GO.

The EX raid pass handling has also created backlash from trainers not only in Winnipeg, but across the world. Winnipeg has seen a total of 11 EX raids, with 2 in the same location. The EX raids have been spread out awkwardly, with the south quadrant only getting them in St. Vital Park. In addition, raiding at that gym recently does not guarantee you an EX raid pass, as many trainers have noticed, which increases the frustration as the EX raid pass distribution is too randomized and trainers are either unsure in how to obtain them or are using multiple accounts to increase the chances of getting them.

There’s still time for Niantic to announce a new update or event, likely for American Thanksgiving next week. With Pokémon GO cutting support for iOS 8 and rumours of Niantic contacting YouTube personalities on a potential Japan event, there may be something in the works. However, the patience is growing thin for many trainers, and with Draconius GO growing in popularity, Niantic has suddenly realized there’s competition among its player base.

Nests have changed for the 35th time in Winnipeg!

Trainers, nests have changed for the 35th time in Winnipeg.

With the colder weather approaching, trainers looking to catch Pokémon needed to complete their dex should consult our crowdsourced spreadsheet. To everyone else, please help newer trainers by reporting on nests in all the locations you go to.

The spreadsheet for this nest cycle can be found here.

Happy hunting!
