February Community Day in Winnipeg: 72 check-ins in the Silph League!

The results are out, and 72 awesome trainers in Winnipeg successfully checked in with their Silph Road traveller card during community day this past Saturday, each earning their Shiny Dratini Silph League Badge. Zoom the map into our city; we’re not joking at all.

As most of you know, next month’s community day will be on March 25th and will feature Bulbasaur; a perfect choice given the Spring Equinox coming up soon. Let’s pull together as Winnipeggers and try to break 72 check-ins, as well as place in the Silph Road’s “Remarkable Categories” list!

For more information on how to sign up for The Silph Road traveller card and check-in for future events, please view this reddit post.

Hope to see you on the road, trainers! Video from this past community day will be out soon.

Community Day this Saturday! Where to find your event organizers for events

Community Day is coming up this Saturday, and trainers are excited to have a chance to catch Dratini and finish their dragon medal! Your PegCity leaders will be scattered across the three main spots (Assiniboine Park, St. Vital Park, and The Forks) during the event. Tentative to change, the event organizers will be divided as follows:

Assiniboine Park – Alexis (lexratsugaskull), Calvin (vb5215)

The Forks – Alex (voodoo9999), Drew (dorianenigma), Forrest (FoxxPyre), Josh (DrCoathanger)

St. Vital Park – Catherine (MeowGoesKitKat), David (daviddrako1962), Nico (ArgentinoGuy), Rachel (NuggetDFTBA), Remy (KingLibrus), Tara (candycoatedice)

Event organizers will be at the above locations from one hour before event start to one hour after (12 to 5pm).

By visiting any of these three sites and finding any of the event organizers, you will receive the following services:

  • A February Community Day badge on your Silph Road traveller card if you check-in with any community organizer using your Silph Road account. If you don’t have a traveller card or a Silph Road account set up yet, please see information here on how to sign up.
  • Handshakes with event organizers to add to your in-person network on your Silph Road traveller card.
  • 50/50 draw, with proceeds going to fund current operating costs, future PegCity merchandise, events, and incidentals. Tickets will be 1 for $2 and 3 for $5. Tickets from all three locations will be pooled for the grand prize draw, which will be live streamed.
  • …and maybe more!

It is highly recommended that you check-in, handshake, and participate in the 50/50 draw in the hour before the event (12 to 1pm) or after (4 to 5pm). Event organizers will ensure that everyone gets a chance to catch Dratinis during the full event duration. Since some locations are rather large, we may advertise on event day exactly where we are located so you can find us for the above rewards.

If you have any questions about the event, feel free to contact any of the event organizers. See everyone on Saturday!

Episode 21 of PegCity Pokémon GO: Wa-Fu Raiding in Toronto feat. KiengIv and Zabowski

Ever wonder what happens when you’re raiding in a group with some of Pokémon GO’s top players in the world?

Episode 21 features a concept of raiding in Toronto that will turn many trainers’ raiding theories and experiences upside down, unlocking the potential of tackling over 100 raids a day!

“Sky wave” of Gen 3 Pokémon released! What we know so far

Niantic has showered us with the latest wave of gen 3 pokémon, mainly of the dragon and flying-type variety. However, beyond that there were some other changes involving regionals, raid bosses, and unique rarities.

  1. Swablu requires 400 candy to evolve into Altaria
Remember what you went through with grinding Wailmer candies to evolve into Wailord? Well, you’re gonna experience it again with Swablu. Fortunately, it seems Swablu is quite common during the day in this event outside downtown, so getting 400 candies for Altaria is certainly possible in the duration of this event.
  2. Castform is included in this release
It comes in four forms: Normal, sunny, rainy, and snowy. Normal form can spawn at all times, sunny form spawns in clear and windy conditions, rainy form spawns in rainy conditions, and snowy form spawns in snowy conditions.
  3. Raid bosses have been switched up
Level 1: Magikarp, Swablu, Snorunt, Wailmer. Gone are the Charmeleon, Ivysaur, Metapod, and Wartortle.
Level 2: Cloyster, Dewgong, Mawile, Sableye. Gone are Magneton, Marowak, Sandslash, and Tentacruel.
Level 3: Azumarill, Jynx, Machamp, Piloswine. Gone are Alakazam, Gengar, Ninetales, Porygon, Omastar, and Scyther.
Level 4: Absol, Aggron, Feraligatr, Lapras, Snorlax, Tyranitar. Gone are Golem, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Poliwrath, Victreebel.
  4. All nests in the 45th nest migration are gen 3 pokémon
In fact, aside from regionals, only gen 3 pokémon are spawning in the wild until February 13th.
  5. Taillow and Swablu can be found in 2km eggs
    Not surprising.
  6. Swablu and Altaria can be shiny
Shiny Swablu and Altaria shine gold compared to its regular light blue colour.
  7. A Chimecho catch gives 1000 stardust
That is, if you can find it…it seems Chimecho at the moment is about as rare as Unown.
  8. Taillow can be a Ditto
Taillow is the first gen 3 pokémon that can be disguised as Ditto. Currently Hoothoot, Pidgey, Rattata, Sentret, Yanma, and Zubat can be disguised as Ditto as well.
  9. Region exclusives in this wave include Volbeat, Illumise, and Tropius
Volbeat can be found in Europe and the Asia-Pacific, Illumise in the Americas and Africa, and Tropius in Southern Spain, the Crete region, and Africa.
  10. Plusle and Minun can be caught globally
Both Plusle and Minun have been spotted in Winnipeg tonight, meaning both Cheering Pokémon have been reunited. Whether they have been reunited temporarily or permanently is currently unknown.
  11. If you’re looking for Beldums, they seem to be more common in the Downtown and Osborne area (same biome as Magnemite and Aron)
Beldums are surprisingly not too hard to find if you’re closer to the downtown core.
  12. Six-hour lures are confirmed and live until February 23rd
Perhaps it’s time we should light up all of Winnipeg again?
